Classes

Lake Central High School offers courses in various areas of theatre, aimed at providing a more focused study of the art.  Students who take these courses will be well-prepared for continued study of theatre at the college level.

Theatre Arts
Theatre Arts is a one-year comprehensive survey of the theatre arts field.  This course involves acting techniques, stagecraft, theatre history, and theatre criticism.  Principles of theatre arts will be applied to work on actual in-class performances

Prerequisite:  Speech (or concurrently)
This class is open to freshmen!

Advanced Theatre Arts
Advanced Theatre Arts is a one-year continuation of Theatre Arts with an emphasis on advanced work in all areas.  Additional instruction will be offered in directing and acting.  Students may take this course twice for credit.  Successive semesters of instruction will be at increasingly more advanced levels.  Defined standards will be used to evaluate each level.

Prerequisite:  Application and Theatre Arts

Technical Theatre
Technical Theatre is a one-semester class focused on the non-acting aspects of plays.  Emphasis will be placed on sets, lighting, sound, and makeup.  The class will look at building sets, creating lighting and sound effects, and applying stage makeup.  The application of basic algebra and geometry will be used.  Students will be required to commit to some after-school experiences as part of the course.

Prerequisite:  None
This class is open to freshmen!

Advanced Technical Theatre
Advanced Technical Theatre is a one-semester course that builds off of Technical Theatre.  Students will learn about the elements of design and then create scenic, lighting, sound, costume, and makeup designs for various plays.  The end result will be a portfolio of designs ready for presentation.  Students will be required to commit to some after-school practical experiences as part of the course.

Prerequisite:  Technical Theatre or teacher consent
